Physiological and Performance Testing and Why is It Important?

Regular physiological testing (lactate threshold power tests, VO2 max and submaximal tests, and anaerobic power tests, to name a few) can be the most overlooked tool to improving any athlete’s performance over an extended period
of time.

1. Prescription of training after the strengths and weaknesses have been found becomes much easier, and your performance much better!

2. Repeating the exact same test, in the exact same conditions, on regular intervals (every 3 to 6 months) will allow the coach and the athlete to determine how the athlete is responding to the training that has been prescribed.  Is power
at lactate threshold higher or lower than earlier in the year?

3. Lactate Threshold Power testing, in conjunction with gas exchange (O2 intake and CO2 output) measures, will determine a range of heart rate or wattage intensities that will be exact in stressing the body to maximally develop the body's three main energy systems (aerobic, glycolytic, and creatine phosphate).
